Renée and Margot have just returned from Vallambrosa, the retreat center where the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition is taught, studied and practice by individuals from all over the world. This particular weekend brought a group who have joined a learning community, individuals who brought their unique perspectives, their stories, their fears and desires, and formed a collective. There is tremendous power in a group. Together we experienced joy, tears, shifts, and laughter. Supported by the group and the wisdom of the Enneagram, each of us found our courage, our power, our voice, and our grace. We are a collective, each with our unique viewpoint, but in the end, more alike than different.
Of course, we had to leave the safe haven of Vallambrosa and our group and return to our lives. We returned to the bills on the dining room table, a spouse craving our attention, a deadline moved up a week, and, in Margot’s case her son’s socks on the floor and dog poop in the entryway…..this is life. We return to the fact that we are in a new month, in a new year, one that has brought tumultuous changes that are disturbing and challenging to many of us. How can we, all of us, whether we have a learning community or not, experience these moments and notice when our type patterns have got us in a stronghold? The Five wants to retreat, the Nine to binge-watch all her recorded shows, the Seven to plan his next adventure. How can we find the courage to take a breath and pause – to take a moment to stay connected to what it is we need and want in a moment of discomfort? This is the Enneagram in everyday life. Our work toward enhanced awareness of ourselves continues no matter what is going on in our lives.
It is now March and spring is approaching. Many of us set intentions or resolutions at the beginning of the new year. How is that going for you? Are you keeping your word to yourself? Can you pause? Make space for your meditation? Having the Enneagram is a powerful tool for making shifts in our life. When we understand our motivations, we can start to access our inner observer. We can more quickly notice when we are hooked by our patterns and our stories. As a collective force, we can move together with graceful, compassionate purpose in the everyday of our lives.
If you live in the Denver area and want to connect with a community to use the Enneagram practice in your everyday life, both Margot and Renée have ongoing study groups and workshops. On March 18th and again on June 10th, Margot will be leading Everyday Enneagram, a program for understanding how this system can be utilized in real time, in real life. The March 18th program’s registration is open until March 10th. Renée has two upcoming classes on March 11th and April 8th so check out these classes on the website for more information and to register online for all classes. We hope you’ll join us in exploring this amazing system!
